Aazol’s Kokum Chutney is a delicious sweet-sour paste that is a burst of flavour. Containing a range of spices held together by tart kokum and earthy jaggery, this is a favourite of many Konkan families.

Provenance

Provenance

The evergreen Kokum or Garcinia Indica tree that’s native to the Western Ghats, Konkan and Goa bears a fruit with numerous health benefits. It is a medicinal powerhouse that is naturally cooling, excellent for digestion and packed with vitamins A, B3, C, iron, magnesium and potassium. While the pure unsweetened extract of the fruit (known as Kokum Agal) is used to make hydrating drinks like Kokum Sherbet and Sol Kadhi, it is the sun-dried rinds or petals that are soaked and used to make this delicious sweet-sour chutney that truly brings out the effervescent flavours of the Kokum fruit.

About The Seller

Seller

Mahalaxmi Swayam Sahayta Samuh consists of 10 enterprising women who started their SHG to support their husbands and earn better lives for their families. They studied the functionings of various SHGs around them to ensure they were best placed to commence their own journey. Their focus on Kokum products stemmed from a market study they conducted, deciding based on availability (the abundance of Kokum across the Konkan coast), competition (other SHGs not selling similar products) and need (Kokum goes a long way in addressing the acidity related issues they observed proliferating around them). Today the SHG is seeing returns on investment to the point that these women are able to financially support and stand by their husbands. Long may their tribe continue!

Tangy chutney

Trying kokum chutney for the first time. Liked it. It has a nice tangy taste, the right blend of sweetness and sourness.
